Prevention they say is better than cure and it is very important to live a healthy lifestyle in order to prevent certain diseases. The food you eat has an effect (positive or negative) on your health, and that is why I decided to educate my readers on the need to eat walnuts.


Walnuts are rich in omega-3 fatty acids and contain antioxidants which help the body to remove free radicals. Below are the three diseases eating walnuts may prevent as reported by


1) Heart or cardiovascular diseases: Cardiovascular diseases are caused by the blockage of the blood vessels of the artery by fats, and this results to the formation of an atherosclerotic plaque. Walnuts contain the antioxidants, ellagic acid, catechin and melatonin which reduce the risk of heart diseases and promote heart health. Walnuts have been shown to lower LDL-cholesterol (bad cholesterol) which is the main culprit in the formation of an atherosclerotic plaque. Walnuts also reduce inflammation and improve the function of the blood vessels.

2) Cancer: Walnuts are able to prevent cancer due to the presence of anticancer agents, such as phytosterols, polyphenols, omega-3 fatty acids. Animal studies have shown that eating walnuts may suppress the growth of cancer in the prostate gland, breast, kidney, and colon.

3) Alzheimer’s disease: This disease leads to memory loss and walnuts have been shown to improve brain function. The antioxidants and healthy fats in walnuts may help to slow the progression of Alzheimer’s disease.
