Nigeria Eligible Players Called Up to England Squads

The English football Association announced the Young lions squad on Friday for the upcoming international friendlies this month, with nine eligible Nigerians invited.

In form Arsenal loanee Folarin Balogun is set to add to his youth appearances for the young lions after he has received a call up to the England U21 squad for two matches on home turf against France, fellow EURO U21 finalists and Croatia.

Joining the 21 year old is Chelsea’s exciting winger Noni Madueke, who was also called up for the matches at the King Power stadium and Craven Cottage.

For the U20 group, five eligible Nigerian players have been given the call, namely, Brentford’s Daniel Oyegoke, Carney Chuwkuemeka of Chelsea, Tim Iroegbunam, loanee from Aston Villa, Sam Edozie of Aston Villa and goalkeeper Owen Goodman, who rejected an invitation to train with the Flying Eagles before the U20 AFCON tournament.

Crystal Palace midfielder David Ozoh has received a maiden call up to the Young Lions squad. The Valencia born player is in contention to make his debut for the U18’s against Croatia, Belgium and Switzerland.

James Debayo has also been named in the 23 man squad by head coach Ryan Neil, which brings the total to nine eligible Nigerian players representing England.

This simply entails that the NFF needs to do better to convince this players to join the project, and on the other hand, the Super Eagles have to start performing on the world stage, because this young players don’t believe that joining the Super Eagles would be a good step for their careers, and that has to change.
