Arsenal are once again interested in signing Raheem Sterling after a torrid few months at Stamford Bridge, according to reports.
The Gunners missed out on signing the England winger, who is rated highly by former coach Mikel Arteta, this summer and he ultimately ended up at Stamford Bridge, with the Gunners instead landing City pair Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko.
It has since proved a masterstroke, with the pair helping Arsenal move top of the Premier League, two points clear of Manchester City and with a game in hand on the duo’s former side.
Life has not worked out so well for Sterling, however. Injury has restricted him to 15 Premier League starts, and he has scored just four goals during his time on the pitch. Absent for much of the recent slump, he nonetheless finds himself now part of a side that have won twice in all competitions since he returned from World Cup duty, and that have scored just once in the last month.
Potter has admitted that things need to change in west London, telling the Chelsea website last month that his bloated 31-man-squad was ‘a problem’, and the club have recently invested 70m euros in talented winger Mykhaylo Mudryk, who has been tipped by his former boss Roberto De Zerbi to win a Ballon D’or in the future.
And, as per 90 min, that could open up an opportunity for Mikel Arteta to swoop in on his former student, with reports claiming that ‘Arteta is a huge fan of Sterling, given his ability to play anywhere across the front line, and would be interested in lodging a bid to try and sign the 28-year-old if he became available this summer.’
However, they add that ‘Sterling is not believed to be looking to leave Chelsea’ as it stands. But, with high spending expected for the coming transfer windows, letting the winger go could well help the Blues balance the books in west London.
