Transfer News: Liverpool have big rivals for bold Serie A raid, as enticing contract prepared; Man Utd rejected by Arsenal target

Liverpool are preparing a contract offer for a Serie A star, while claims of Manchester United summer rejection by an Arsenal target emerge – both in all the latest Euro Paper Talk.

LIVERPOOL KEEN ON MARCELO BROZOVIC

Inter midfielder Marcelo Brozovic is a transfer target for Liverpool for next summer, according to a report.

All eyes were on the Reds’ midfield this summer, with pleas for a new signing getting louder and louder – with criticism still ongoing. In the end, manager Jurgen Klopp backtracked on his original plan and signed Arthur Melo on deadline day.

However, the loan arrival of the Juventus star feels like a precursor to a bigger, bolder signing in 2023. Indeed, Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham is Klopp’s reported top target.

Liverpool have also had links with Inter star Nicolo Barella. According to reports from Spain, though, his team-mate Brozovic is another Anfield target.

The 29-year-old’s future in Milan looked uncertain at the start of 2022, but he then signed a new contract in March. Despite having until 2026 on his new terms, though, he could reportedly spend only one more season at the San Siro.

That is because Liverpool – who had links with him in the summer – are supposedly preparing a two-year contract for Brozovic with the option of an extra year.

However, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United also fancy their chances of signing the Croatia international.

Inter are reportedly not against letting Brozovic go because his new contract – and status in the team – has protected his value. The Serie A side could yet make a decent sale on the 76-cap international.

Brozovic turns 30 in November, so selling him while he has three years left on his deal may be able to net them a profit on their 2016 investment from Dinamo Zagreb.

Brozovic has started every game for Inter this season, while captaining them in their Champions League win over Viktoria Plzen.

He will hit the 300-appearance mark for Inter if he plays in Tuesday’s clash with Barcelona.
