A new study found that 65 percent of cell phone users leave their devices on their mattresses when they are sleeping. The detrimental effects of sleeping next to your phone on your health have long been a topic of discussion, despite the fact that some people may use it for meditation or relaxing applications or music.
Here are five drawbacks of sleeping next to your phone according to Medicalnewstoday.
1. Disturbance of sleep.
Because it is a gadget, we expect it will ring, beep, or vibrate. Few individuals are immune to the FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) disorder, which causes them to check their phones long after they’ve made up their minds to go to bed. As a result, the majority of a person’s naptime is spent in REM, which is a stage before deep sleep.
2. Promotes increased brain activity.
According to scientific investigations, prolonged exposure to electromagnetic radiation has been shown to disrupt the blood-brain barrier, causing albumin leakage in the brain. Even the brain’s blood glucose activity is accelerated by the wireless radiation from the phone.
3. Could lead to cancer.
Engineers must first choose acceptable SAR (Specific Absorption Rate) limits for phone radiation before this discussion can begin. The WHO issued a discretionary warning to keep cell phones away from children despite the absence of conclusive scientific evidence that mobile phones cause cancer. A number of researchers have claimed otherwise.
4. Problems with reproduction
Pregnant women who are exposed to electromagnetic radiation run the risk of their unborn children having genetic defects. Males’ sperm count and quality may decline as a result.
5. Fire incident risk.
Many individuals sleep with their telephones beneath their pillows because they are so in love with them. There have been incidents of pillows being set on fire as a result of this practise.
The most well-known incident was a Texas teenager who woke up to a burning smell in July 2014. Her sheet and mattress were burned by her Samsung Galaxy S4, which was buried beneath her pillow.
Try leaving your phone in a different room while you are sleeping. Alternatively, make sure it’s at least three feet away if you need to use your phone as an alarm clock in your room.
If you sleep with your phone a bit further away from you, you probably won’t notice much of a difference. However, it will help you get asleep, remain asleep, and have restful sleep. In today’s fast-paced environment, getting a good night’s sleep is essential.
